The Beginning

Sanja and Erika met because both had initially wanted to work on a fortune-telling robot. Upon further consideration, however, that idea was discarded. It was then that the two met Lincy...and the rest is history.

Initial Brainstorming

During a class brainstorming session, the suggestion was brought up that the exhibition should center around a theme. Since children were expected to attend, one of the ideas thrown out was that the exhibition should be based on a carnival, with different exhibits modeled after the different games found in a carnival. The members of our group were extremely taken by that idea.

The Idea

The idea for the "Kill the Crocodile" Game was first brought up by Lincy Thomas. She initially envisioned a game where there would be several crocodiles moving back and forth on a track and where the children would be trying to hit as many of the crocodiles as is possible. After talking to Scott however, the idea was changed to having one crocodile that moved in various random ways within an enclosure, and that had to be hit on the head five times before it "died." We hoped that a game such as this would entertain the five and under crowd attending the robotic exhibition. The story behind the game would be that a crocodile, Rex, ate all of the candy from the children of a small village. (Initially, the crocodile was supposed to have eaten the children of the village. Naturally, that was rejected as being too barbaric.) The person who manages to 'kill' the crocodile, thus stopping it from terrorizing the children of this small village, would be rewarded with a prize - a piece of candy!
